Zeus

Zeus
Kitsune Moon, 2026

In the old stories, Zeus rarely came down to the human world as himself. He arrived in disguise: a swan, a bull, a shower of gold, and most often an eagle. This painting catches him mid-descent, a god who wears his halo, crown and horns at the same time.

The figure is drawn with the directness of a cave wall or a child's hand. Pink wings fan out like a starburst, and his eyes are crossed through as if he's half-blinded by his own light. The earthy ground is built from coffee grounds pressed into the canvas, giving the surface the grain of old stone. Thunder breaks across it in jagged black and blue. Tucked beneath one wing, a horned head gives away what the halo hides.

Smaller figures and marks are scattered across the surface, quiet references to the people and myths caught in his path. Some are easy to find. Others reveal themselves slowly, the longer the painting lives with you.
